All you need to know about oxygen infusion

Oxygen is one of the most essential elements for life. The oxygen that we inhale from the air around us helps keep our body and skin free from impurities and toxins. With age, however, the oxygen levels in our skin naturally decline, which contributes to dehydration, laxity, uneven skin tone, wrinkles and fine lines.

Oxygen infusion is a specialized skin therapy treatment beloved by celebrities including Madonna and Ashley Graham, although there’s little scientific research behind its efficacy. Still many people report that their skin looks healthier and brighter after the procedure, and before-and-after pictures support these reports.

What will oxygen do for your skin?

When given in high concentrations, hyperbaric oxygen triggers the bodies' own natural healing functions and the skin will rapidly respond and heal itself in such a favourable environment. The skin will "plump up", fine lines and wrinkles will soften besides improved elasticity, suppleness and a healthy glow.

About the procedure

It’s non-invasive, non-medical and has no side effects. The process of delivering the oxygen is quite gentle, which makes oxygen facials suitable for anyone. Here, at ICI Paris, we have oxygen infusion as an add-on treatment or as part of a facial treatment, where your experience begins with a cleanse and gentle exfoliation to have your skin prepared. Then customized serums are applied directly onto your skin while a hand piece similar to an airbrush glides over your skin utilizing pressurized oxygen to deliver super ingredients to the deepest layers of your skin. The spray feels cool, calming and relaxing.

How many treatments do I need to start seeing results?

However, even with your first treatment you will have noticeable results - instant hydration and luminosity - these results are temporary lasting approximately 4-6 days.

Therefor, a single oxygen treatment is a great “red-carpet” or "pick me up" treatment refreshing your skin for special occasions such as weddings, graduation, photography sessions, reunions… etc or could just simply be a well deserved treat for yourself.

Cumulatively, repeated treatments will increase the longevity of the temporary effects; therefore, a series will produce longer lasting results: maintained healthy skin and a way to age better. In this case we recommend to start with 6 sessions once a week, then maintain results every 4-6 weeks or as needed.

Can oxygen infusion be combined with other procedures?

It is especially effective when combined with skin resurfacing (microdermabrasion, enzyme and herbal peels) and LED.

What if I have acne or other skin condition (rosacea, eczema)?

Skin that is treated with pure oxygen functions better, hence more effectively fights microbes (bacteria and fungi) that could be associated with acne and other skin conditions like rosacea, dermatitis. If oxygen levels are low, it is more challenging for the skin to rid itself of impurities.

Who is the ideal candidate?

Men, women and teens… Anyone frustrated with dull, dehydrated, inflamed skin can benefit from it.

Purported benefits of oxygen facials

As mentioned before the benefits of oxygen infusion facials haven’t been scientifically proven, but clients widely report their satisfaction with the results including:

  • Adding radiance. Brighter, glowing skin - Oxygen allows the pores to more easily absorb powerhouse ingredients enabling hydrating agents, peptides, and antioxidants to penetrate deeper skin layers and do their job more effectively. The result is hydrated, radiant skin. Since the treatment also removes dead skin cells and impurities from the skin’s surface, the complexion becomes brighter.

  • Hydrating skin.  The delivery of high-pressured air to the skin improves blood circulation, while serums provide deep hydration, all of which results in visibly plumper skin. It also unclogs pores, allowing hydrating serums to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin providing more moisture than a topical serum application.

  • Detoxing skin – Air pollution and smoking rob the skin of oxygen. An oxygen facial helps reverse the effects of environmental pollutants and rejuvenates oxygen-starved skin.

  • Evening skin tone via speeded cell turnover – Medical researchers believe that the infusion of oxygen into the skin may help the skin create new cells at a faster pace. This increased cell regeneration helps speed the healing of facial scars, acne and blemishes.

  • Reducing fine lines. The deep penetration of moisturizing agents such as hyaluronic acid helps plump up the skin and temporarily reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Oxygen facials are also said to help improve blood circulation, and encourage the production of collagen. This helps plump up facial features and restore volume to skin besides making skin look brighter.

  • Calming inflammation, hence improving of acne and rosacea - Oxygen is known to accelerate wound healing and may also kill certain microbes. This is why places with low levels of oxygen, such as airplanes, can cause skin issues worsen. Furthermore, the oxygen infusion facial helps reduce breakouts because the treatment unclogs pores, removes dirt and sebum.
